70% of work on Mehsana Railway Station redevelopment done; completion likely in 6 months

Mehsana: The redevelopment work of Mehsana Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is nearly 70 percent complete. The project is slated to be finished in the next six months, after which the station is expected to emerge as a multimodal transit hub.

As part of the project, construction of the new station building on the east side of Mehsana station is progressing rapidly. The exterior is being beautified to make it more modern and attractive. The building will include a circulating area porch, waiting room, booking office, ticket-checking staff office, enquiry office, and well-organized vehicle management facilities.

A rest house for officers, three retiring rooms, dormitory, CCTV surveillance system, and clean toilets are also being arranged to ensure comfort and convenience for both passengers and railway staff.

Major Works and Progress

  • Two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking at the main entrance has been completed.

  • Work on the booking office and AC/non-AC waiting hall at the station building’s second entrance is in progress.

  • A 40-foot-wide roof plaza is being constructed to facilitate safe and seamless passenger movement on both sides of the station, based on experience gained from the roof plaza at Rani Kamalapati station.

  • Shelters on platforms 4 and 5 have been completed and made Divyangjan-friendly.

Modern Passenger Facilities

After redevelopment, passengers will enjoy numerous modern and convenient facilities:

  • 8 platforms and 12 rail lines, with 2 reserved for Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

  • 2 foot overbridges and 4 lifts under construction.

  • AC, non-AC, and women’s waiting rooms for passenger comfort.

  • 28 stainless steel benches on each platform, with a Coach Guidance System on platforms 1, 4/5, and 6/7.

  • Facilities including a food plaza, ‘One Station One Product’ stall, Jan Aushadhi Kendra, ATM, ATVM, luggage trolleys, and wheelchairs.

  • High-resolution CCTV cameras for enhanced security.

  • Modernised dormitory, retiring room, booking office, and enquiry centre.

  • A proposed “Restaurant on Wheels” to offer a unique experience to passengers.

Train Operations and Traffic

Mehsana station is a major station of Western Railway:

  • 38 Superfast, 23 Mail/Express, and 10 Local trains stop daily.

  • 6 trains depart from Mehsana.

  • Around 12,000 passengers use the station every day.
