AMC removes three religious structures for TP road-widening

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), under its Estate and Urban Development Department (North Zone), on Thursday carried out the removal of three religious structures obstructing a planned 30.50-metre road line from Indulal Yagnik Hall to Manchhani Masjid in Saraspur ward.

According to AMC, the existing 18.28-metre TP road is being widened as per the GPMC Act. Notices were earlier issued to affected property owners and occupants. Some had approached the court, but their pleas were dismissed, enabling the corporation to proceed with the clearance work.

As part of the operation, three religious structures — Manchhani Masjid, Baliyadev Temple, and Pipleshwar Mahadev Temple — were removed.

Around 200 personnel, including staff from the North Zone Estate and Urban Development Department, Torrent Power, the Fire Department, the Health Department, and the Police Department, participated in the drive. The operation was carried out using 60 labourers, five pressure vans, two JCB machines, along with ambulances and a fire tender.

Separately, in Saraspur–Rakhial ward, AMC and police teams conducted a joint anti-encroachment drive at Bar Number Platform. The operation resulted in the seizure of:

  • 8 iron counters / covered stalls

  • 22 hoarding boards and banners

  • 156 units of other encroachment material

Additionally, in Sardar Nagar and Thakkarbapanagar wards, AMC levied ₹1,75,000 in administrative charges on four ongoing construction sites for violating Air Quality Index (AQI) norms and breaching permission conditions. DeshGujarat
