AMC OKays AMTS-BRTS single mobility system; ₹470 crore modern ticketing project cleared
December 18, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Standing Committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today approved a proposal to implement a Single Mobility System for AMTS and BRTS, enabling passengers to travel across both public transport services using a single ticket or card. The decision was announced by Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani after the committee’s regular meeting.
Briefing the media, Dani said over six lakh commuters use AMTS and BRTS daily, making public transport the city’s lifeline. To ensure seamless, time-saving and technology-driven travel, the committee has approved a unified ticketing system that will eliminate the need for separate tickets and queues. Passengers will be able to access buses through a simple scanning method, significantly improving efficiency and convenience.
The total cost of the project has been fixed at ₹470 crore, with the system scheduled to be fully implemented within 12 months. The project also includes an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) period. Dani said that all hardware and software upgrades after five years will be carried out free of cost by the implementing agency, ensuring the system remains modern and up to date.
As part of the initiative, a unified journey planner will be developed to provide passengers complete information on routes and connectivity from origin to destination across AMTS and BRTS. In subsequent phases, the platform is proposed to be expanded to integrate GSRTC, Metro services, Indian Railways and future high-speed rail, along with auto-rickshaw and cab services for last-mile connectivity.
The system will feature a mobile application generating a unique QR code, allowing passengers to load balance as per convenience, with fares automatically deducted based on travel. A WhatsApp chatbot facility will also be introduced, enabling commuters to generate QR-based tickets by entering their travel details.
In a separate decision, Dani said the Standing Committee reviewed AMC’s revenue generation through land auctions. Following the finalisation of town planning schemes, the civic body auctions selected commercial and residential plots to fund development works.
Recently, AMC auctioned four commercial plots in Shilaj-Sola and Vastral areas, generating revenue of ₹441 crore. The funds will be utilised for infrastructure development, including roads, footpaths, water supply, gardens, lakes and other civic amenities, aimed at improving facilities for Ahmedabad’s residents.
