Repairs underway at Income Tax flyover after expansion joints loosen

Ahmedabad: Amid the closure of decades-old Subhash Bridge, which is set for demolition, another busy bridge, the Income Tax flyover, was barricaded on Tuesday after expansion joints between two spans were found to have loosened. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said the issue is limited to the expansion joints and does not affect the structural safety of the flyover.

Built six years ago at a cost of ₹65.5 crore, the flyover was inspected by an AMC-appointed consultant five months earlier. In an official statement, the AMC said the defect was noticed in the finger-type expansion joints, where bolts had loosened, causing the joints to open. “This is not a structural defect and does not compromise the safety of the flyover. Repairs, including replacement of loose bolts and treatment with epoxy and micro-concrete, are underway,” the statement said.

The AMC added that the finger-type expansion joints are covered under the guarantee period, and the repair work is being carried out at no cost to the civic body by the contractor, Ranjit Buildcon Ltd. DeshGujarat
