Stone-pelting attempt on AMC team during anti-encroachment drive
January 03, 2026
Ahmedabad: A scuffle broke out between the North Zone Estate Department team of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and local hawkers during an anti-encroachment drive under the Thakkarbapanagar bridge in the eastern part of the city on Tuesday. A stone-pelting attempt was reported, though no injuries occurred.
The incident took place when the Estate Department team moved in to ease traffic congestion by removing illegally parked lorries, including vehicles selling fruits and panipuri, from beneath the bridge. As officials loaded seized lorries onto enforcement vehicles, local hawkers objected and forcibly unloaded one of the vehicles, triggering a confrontation.
Tensions escalated as a crowd gathered and some individuals allegedly picked up stones. However, Estate Department staff began recording the incident on their mobile phones, which prevented further escalation. Despite this, one stone was reportedly thrown at the officials.
Sensing that the situation could worsen, the Estate Department team withdrew from the spot. No casualties or damage were reported. DeshGujarat
