Surat: The Limbayat Zone of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has launched an aggressive drive to recover pending property tax dues, undertaking large-scale sealing action in several prominent textile markets across the city.
As part of the special drive, municipal teams carried out inspections at commercial properties located in major textile hubs, including Surat Textiles Market, Silk City, Anupam, Abhishek, Millennium, Radhe, Sagar and Ganesh markets.
Taking strict action against long-pending defaulters, the civic body sealed 285 shops for non-payment of property tax. Following the enforcement drive, 205 shop owners paid ₹51 lakh in outstanding dues on the spot.
The Limbayat Zone reported a total property tax recovery of ₹1.52 crore in a single day as a result of the operation.
Officials said the sealing drive will continue in the coming days not only in commercial areas but also in industrial estates. In addition, action will be initiated in residential areas, where taxpayers with pending dues may face disconnection of water supply and drainage connections, the civic body said. DeshGujarat
