Ahmedabad: Another violent incident has occurred at the controversial Seventh-day Adventist Higher Secondary School in the Maninagar area of the city, months after the killing of a Class 10 student. In the latest incident, a Class 7 student of the school, which is now under government administration, was allegedly assaulted by three fellow students, prompting police action and an official inquiry by the education department.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Pravesh Kumar, the incident occurred after the victim, who was serving as a class monitor, asked other students to stand in a line during school dispersal on February 4. However, the accused students, Veer, Farhan and Yusuf Pathan, refused to comply and later threatened him, saying that they would “settle the matter” the next day.
The next day, on February 5, when the victim went to the washroom during school hours, two of the accused students followed him. One of them allegedly grabbed the victim by the collar and threatened him, while another reportedly used a blade to tear off the buttons of his shirt. The student was also allegedly beaten with bare hands and punched on the face and nose, causing injury and distress.
After being informed of the incident by his elder son, the complainant first approached the school authorities, who assured him of an internal inquiry. Unsatisfied, he later took both his sons to Khokhra Police Station and formally lodged a complaint seeking legal action against the three accused students. Police have registered the case under sections 115(2), 351(3), and 54 of the BNS and stated that further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a team from the District Education Officer (DEO) office visited the school to investigate the matter and record statements of the students involved. Ahmedabad city DEO Rohit Chaudhary has issued a notice to the school principal and administrative staff, seeking an explanation over the alleged negligence and asking why disciplinary action, including suspension, should not be initiated.
