Ahmedabad Police to Add Zone-8; IPS Mayur Patil Appointed as DCP
March 07, 2026
Ahmedabad: The city will soon get a new police zone, namely Zone-8, in the eastern part. The move is set to improve policing in rapidly developing areas and comes after the appointment of Mayur Patil as DCP for the proposed zone in the latest IPS reshuffle.
Though the new zone has not yet been officially notified, reports suggest that the posting of a DCP indicates that the unit is likely to become operational soon. It is learnt that the proposal may be finalised within the next month.
As per the plan, five to six police stations will be included in Zone-8, which will be carved out of existing Zones 5 and 6. Zone-5 currently covers Bapunagar, Nikol, Amraiwadi, Rakhial, Gomtipur, Odhav and Ramol, while Zone-6 includes Maninagar, Isanpur, Kagdapith, Narol, Vatva and Danilimda.
Officials said a new police station is proposed in Vastral, which is at present under Ramol Police Station. The restructuring will also change the jurisdiction of some police stations to better manage residential and industrial areas along the eastern ring road.
With the creation of Zone-8, Sector-2 will have four zones instead of three, which officials say will help improve supervision, response time and overall law-and-order management in the eastern corridor of the city. DeshGujarat
