₹545 crore ITC scam probe in Rajkot takes turn, DGGI takes over investigation

Rajkot: The investigation into the ₹545 crore bogus Input Tax Credit (ITC) scam in Rajkot has taken a new turn after allegations of corruption surfaced during the probe. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has now taken control of the investigation, and five intelligence officers posted in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Gandhidham have been internally transferred.

The case relates to an alleged GST fraud involving fake ITC claims worth around ₹545 crore. During the inquiry, authorities reportedly found irregularities in certain actions taken by officials, including the manner in which some cases were handled and settled. Earlier, two traders had been arrested in connection with the scam, and action had also been initiated against officials suspected of involvement.

Following these developments, the DGGI headquarters in New Delhi took key decisions regarding the probe. It is learnt that officials have been instructed not to carry out any fresh raids until the end of March, a directive that has created concern within the department.

According to sources, senior authorities intervened after complaints were received that some Central GST Intelligence officers were allegedly registering cases indiscriminately and engaging in financial dealings while settling them.

Allegations have been made against five officers, including claims of questionable case settlements and arrests carried out without adequate evidence. DeshGujarat
