Maximum temperature above 40°C; heatwave alert issued for Ahmedabad city

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad, has forecast a heatwave in the city from 8:30 am on March 12 to March 13. According to the weather forecast for the next seven days, the intensity of summer in the city is likely to increase. The maximum temperature in the city is expected to be around 40°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 23°C from March 12 to the morning of March 13.

According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, the maximum temperature in the city is likely to remain between 37°C and 40°C, and the minimum temperature between 22°C and 24°C from March 13 to March 19, 2026. An increase in heat intensity is expected during this period.

The following are some precautions to keep in mind to avoid extreme heat:

Dos:

  • Drink plenty of water even if you are not thirsty.

  • Wear light-coloured, loose, cotton clothes.

  • Use sunglasses, an umbrella, a hat, or a handkerchief while going out.

  • Consume lemon water, buttermilk, coconut water, or ORS to maintain hydration.

Don’ts:

  • Avoid going out unnecessarily between 12 noon and 4 pm.

  • Avoid strenuous physical exertion in extreme heat.

  • Avoid consuming beverages like tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks, as they dehydrate the body.

  • Avoid consuming stale food or food with excessive protein.

  • Avoid taking small children, pregnant women, and the elderly out in the heat.
