PRL Ahmedabad Opens Applications for Summer Internship 2026

Ahmedabad: The Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) has announced the Summer Internship Programme 2026, inviting applications from undergraduate and postgraduate students and teachers from science and technology disciplines. The internship will be conducted from May 11 to July 10, 2026, and the application window will remain open from March 13 to April 3, 2026.

PRL, an autonomous institute under the Department of Space, conducts advanced research in fields such as Astronomy and Astrophysics, Solar and Space Physics, Atmospheric and Geosciences, Planetary Sciences, Quantum Communication, Atomic and Molecular Physics, and Theoretical Physics. The laboratory operates major research facilities at its campuses in Navrangpura and Thaltej in Ahmedabad, along with observatories at Mount Abu and Udaipur.

According to the official announcement, the summer internship programme aims to provide young scholars an opportunity to work with PRL scientists and engineers on specific research projects, allowing them to gain practical exposure to high-level scientific research and helping them choose future career paths.

The programme will be conducted in hybrid mode (online and offline) depending on the nature of the project. Selected interns will work under the guidance of PRL faculty members, and only a limited number of projects will be available.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be Indian citizens pursuing UG or PG studies at a recognised institution.

• Minimum 60% marks or CGPA 6.32/10 at all academic levels is required.

• Students from Physics, Space Science, Geology, Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Ocean Science, Optics, Laser Physics, and related subjects are encouraged to apply.

• Preference will be given to KVPY, DST-INSPIRE, or National Science Academy fellowship holders.

• Teachers teaching at the graduate or postgraduate level with research interest in related subjects can also apply, provided the application is forwarded through the head of the institution.

• Essential qualifications for the teachers include Ph.D. + five years of teaching experience, with research interest shown by publications/projects.

• Internship duration: May 11 – July 10, 2026

• Mode: Online / Offline (depending on the project)

• No stipend will be provided to interns.

• Limited paid accommodation may be available on request.

• Selected candidates will be informed by email by the end of April 2026.

PRL stated that interested candidates must first contact the project supervisor listed on the official website and submit the online application after receiving consent.
