New ESIC Hospitals in Kalol and Sanand to Be Ready by 2027
April 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: To ease the rising patient load at the ESIC-run General Hospital in Bapunagar, construction of two new modern hospitals is underway in Sanand and Kalol. At present, the Bapunagar hospital handles over 2,000 OPD patients daily, and with most beds remaining occupied, patients often face long waiting times for treatment.
Both upcoming hospitals will offer facilities such as OPD services, inpatient care, emergency and trauma services, surgery, maternity care, ICU, and dialysis. This expansion is expected to significantly reduce the need for patients to travel to Bapunagar, saving both time and cost. It will also help ease overcrowding for patients from Ahmedabad.
ESIC Regional Director Hemantkumar Pandey said that nearly 6.5 lakh insured employees and their families across North Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, amounting to around 25 lakh beneficiaries, currently depend on the Bapunagar hospital. With the new hospitals becoming operational, the patient load will be distributed, enabling access to multispecialty treatment closer to home.
A 150-bed hospital in Kalol, spread over 16,000 square metres and being built at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore, is expected to become operational by the end of 2026. It will benefit around 4 lakh people in the Kadi–Kalol and Chhatral areas.
Similarly, a 350-bed hospital in Sanand, spanning 40,500 square metres and costing approximately ₹550 crore, is slated for completion by the end of 2027. This facility will cater to nearly 6 lakh people in Sanand, Chharodi, and Changodar.
Medical College Expansion
A medical college has been started at the ESIC Hospital in the Bapunagar–Naroda area. In the coming years, another hospital is likely to be developed on 27 acres of land in Naroda to support the college. Currently, the medical college operates within a 300-bed, state-of-the-art hospital in Bapunagar.
