Centre Notifies Panoli in Gujarat as New Customs Handling Point
April 08, 2026
New Delhi: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) under the Ministry of Finance has issued a Gazette notification authorising Panoli in Bharuch district as a location for customs operations under the Customs Act.
With this inclusion, Panoli is now officially recognised as a customs point where imported goods can be unloaded and export goods can be loaded. This effectively enables the handling of import-export cargo at the location, strengthening Gujarat’s logistics network.
The change has been incorporated into the existing Notification No. 12/97-Customs (N.T.) dated April 2, 1997, which serves as the central framework for designating authorised places such as Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and other notified points under Section 7 of the Customs Act, 1962.
The notification is updated periodically to align with evolving trade and logistics needs. In recent years, locations such as Malur in Karnataka (October 2025), Dhanakya in Rajasthan (November 2024), and Virochannagar in Gujarat (January 2025) have been added.
Panoli, known as a major industrial hub, particularly for chemical industries, is expected to benefit significantly from this move. Companies in and around Bharuch will now be able to import raw materials more easily and export finished goods directly from a nearby authorised point.
The development is also likely to reduce logistics costs and transit time, as businesses will no longer have to depend solely on distant ports or existing customs stations.
Overall, the inclusion of Panoli is expected to boost local industry, improve ease of doing business, and enhance trade efficiency in the region. DeshGujarat
