Two youths, volunteering for bird rescue died today in Amdavad due to electric shock near Shahibagar railway over bridge.

Those dead are Akash Rajput and Shambhu Rabari, while third one Chhaganbhai is injured and under treatment in Civil hospital.

Akash Mohanbhai Rajput(18) and Shambhubhai Baldevbhai Desai(17) both resident of Nani Hamam ni pol, Ghikanta were working as volunteer for city based Sanjivani trust.

After their organization received a rescue call for injured kite bird, they reached the spot.

Injured kite bird was hanging on a kite string over a branch of one tree.

Akash and Shabhu found a tall steel pipe nearby and raised it to the branch where an injured bird was hanging.

While doing this, a steel pipe touched overhead power cable of Ahmedabad-Delhi railway line. While one volunteer faced direct current through pipe, the other one was hit by indirect current.

Seeing them hit with electric shock, and struggling for life, one Chhagan Moraji Jorsang(22) rushed there and tried to remove a steel pipe from their body. While doing this, Chhagan also was injured due to electric shock. ‘108’ ambulance later took them to Civil hospital where Akash and Shambhubhai were declared dead, while Chhaganbhai is under treatment.

Sanjivani group has recruited 121 youths as volunteers. They have received one-day training for bird rescue.

Both Akash and Shambhu were only child of their parents. Akash was student of GLS college, while Shambhu’s main job was in a call centre. Both had joined Sanjivani trust’s bird rescue drive on 11th of January. Hundreds of people from Ghikanta area reached Civil hospital to condol their family.
