Surat has become the first city in India to supply treated waste water to industries for industrial use.
Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) has started supplying treated waste water to Pandesara based industrial units through tertiary treatment plant.
The plant was activated in March 2014, however it has recently achieved 70-80% stability. Domestic waster water is treated in STP of tertiary treatment plant and later it is used for industrial use.
The project has been successful and SMC at present supplies 35 MLD water to industries in Pandesara area.
Pandesara GIDC has 140 industrial units that need water. 125 of them are dying printing processing mills that need round the clock water supply. Bore well water is not suitable to maintain quality in textile industry. Industries need 85-90 MLD water. As present 100 MLD tertiary plant of SMC at Bamroli is capable to supply about 40-50 MLD treated waste water to industries, the industrialists in Pandesara have requested SMC to set up second 40 MLD capacity tertiary plant.
