3.5 km long canal-top solar power plant ready in Vadodara

Indian Express reports that construction of 3.5 km long, 10 MW canal-top solar power plant in Vadodara ( from Sama to Chhani) has been finished and the facility will begin producing power after Diwali which which be used to run motor pumps in Saurashtra region by the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited(SSNNL). Work on the project started in March 2014 by Hyderabad based Mega Engineering & Infrastructure Limited. The canal space saves 20 acre land. As per the engineering, procurement and construction(EPC) agreement with the firm, annually 16.2 million unit power will be supplied through this facility which will be used to run five pumping generators at Saurashtra branch canal for water supply. The other such canal-top project is located at Kadi which is 750 meter long and having 1-MW capacity.
