DG Vanzara to be released from Sabarmati jail on February 18

DG Vanzara, retired IPS officer of Gujarat will be released from Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad after over 7 years of imprisonment on 18 February 2015. Shri Vanzara was arrested on 24 April 2007 and he was in jail ever since then. Shri Vanzara has been granted bail by Mumbai CBI Court and Ahmedabad CBI court in two cases of encounter.
Though Vanzara got bail in Ishrat enounter case of encounter on 5 February, he was not relesaed as the bail order from Mumbai Court in Sohrabuddin enounter case was not received. Vanzara was granted bail in Sohrabuddin encounter case in September 2014 by the Mumbai CBI court. As he was in jail in Ishrat case as well, the order of the Mumbai court could not be executed.The latest order of Ahmedabad CBI court was presented before the Mumbai court. The entire legal procedure will take time of three to four days for completion.
Though Vanzara has been retired in jail itself, the govertnment, if wishes may make some post-retirement appointment.
Ahmedabad CBI court has in its bail order in Sohrabuddin encounter case asked Vanzara to stay outside Gujarat. As the Mumbai court has in its bail order asked Vanzara to remain present in the court once every week, Vanzara is likely to move to Mumbai post his relesae from Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad. Vanzara will need to appear in Ahmedabad CBI court every Saturday as per the bail order in Ishrat case. If he can’t visit the court on some Saturday, he will need to convey it in advance. On his belahf, his lawyer will need to appear in court in such case.
