Gujarat Congress requests Governor to disapprove GujCoTOC

Gandhinagar
A delegation of Gujarat Congress led by state party president Bharatsinh Solanki and Leader of Opposition Shankersinh Vaghela visited Raj Bhawan in Gandhinagar and presented memorandum to Governor requesting him not to approve GUJCOTOC bill passed by Gujarat Assembly.
Congress in its memorandum said that the bill proposes telephone intercept power to police which violates fundamental rights of citizen and also violated Indian Telegraph Act.
Congress delegation argued that after repealing POTA, the Government of India had introduced Unlawful Activity Amendment Act-2004 which is enough to fight against terrorism.
Congress argued that when MACOCA was implemented in Maharashtra, Unlawful Activities Prevention Amendment Act-2004 was not in existence, and therefore comparison between GUJCOC and MACOCA is improper.
Congress delegation said that present government has added the word ‘terrorism’ to earlier GUJCOC bill for political reasons.
Congress objected section 16 in GOJCOTOC bill which considers statement before police(not below rank of SP) valid as evidence.
