Banaskantha

12,804 dead bodies of cattle disposed off out of total 12,053 dead cattle. Teams of doctors from Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara Municipal Corporations are deployed in Banaskantha to prevent epidemic. 1,365 people are shifted to safer locations in last 144 hours by NDRF teams.14 jawans of Indian Air Force, 257 from Border Security Force, 180 from Indian Army, 5 helicopters took part in rescue and relief operations.

Patan district

In Patan district, 3,001 cattle dead bodies are disposed off. Patan district had Kharif sowing across 36,034 ha, of which 7,972 is water logged due to flood attracting crop failure. About 1,450 ha land of 128 villages settled on the bank of 6 rivers has washed out. 846 houses/slum units are destroyed totally while 1132 are partially damaged. 101 Panchayat roads and 48 state roads are damaged. District administration has repaired 44 Panchayat roads and 35 state roads so far on war foot basis. Repair works for other roads are going on. Water supply to 464 villages is on. Another 27 villages received water supply today while 26 other villages will get water supply tomorrow. Power supply has been restored in 457 villages. 36 teams of UGVCL are working for power supply in another 65 villages. RSS and Ram Seva Samiti has made arrangement of food packets at Radhanpur. 38 telephone towers and 42 telephone exchange have been made functional again. 37 secondary and 91 primary schools are closed due to water logging. They will be made functional again from Monday. 46 fair price shops have suffered damage, 457 are in working condition.

Over 16,000 cattle perished in Gujarat floods

Palanpur

Heavy rains followed by floods in Banaskantha and Patan districts in north Gujarat last week have claimed over 16,000 cattle.

As per an official release, more than 16,000 cattle have been killed in the floods. Of these, 13,053 were killed in worst-hit Banaskantha district, while 3,001 died in Patan.

Union Minister of State for Home Haribhai Chaudhary, who is on a two-day visit to his constituency Banaskantha, visited flood-affected villages in Bhabhar, Vav, Tharad and Deesa tehsil today.

He assured that the government is taking all necessary steps for relief and rescue, the release added.

Speaking to reporters, Chaudhary said that out of 13,053 cattle killed in the flood in Banaskantha, local administration has discarded 12,084 carcasses till now.

He further said that medical teams from Vadodara, Surat and Ahmedabad have been called to keep a check on epidemics.

As per the figures provided by the state emergency control, at least 53 persons have lost lives across the state in this recent rain and subsequent floods. Among these, 28 persons have died in Banaskantha while 5 died in Patan.

Meanwhile, the state government today announced to give a grant of Rs 3.78 crore to Patan district.

According to an official release, electricity supply was badly hit due to floods in Patan. Till now, administration has restored electricity in 457 villages, while 65 villages are still without electricity.
