Curfew lifted from 3 areas of Ahmedabad and rest of Gujarat

Curfew has been lifted from the three areas of Ahmedabad city including Naranpura, the assembly segment of BJP national president Amit Shah, and Ghatlodia, the constituency of chief minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel, and all other parts of the state where it was clamped following violence that erupted in the evening of August 25 following the arrest of some leaders of Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS), an outfit of politically dominant Patel community which is demanding inclusion of Patels in other backward classes for reservation benefits.
The step has been taken in the wake of life almost returning to normalcy in most parts of the state.
Curfew has been lifted from Naranpura, Ghatlodia and Vadaj areas of Ahmedabad. Now only Ramol, Odhav, Krishnanagar, Bapunagar, Naroda and Nikol are under curfew, official sources said today.
Meanwhile, curfew has also been lifted from Mahesana city, Unjha, Vinsnagar, Vijapur and Kadi towns of the disctict along with Morbi and Himmatnagar, the sources said.
SP Banaskantha Chirag Koradiya told UNI today that curfew has also been lifted from Ghad area and district headquarter town of Palanpur this morning. ‘We will review the situation in the evening and decide the further course,’ he said.
With this now across the state only six areas of Ahmedabad are under curfew. Curfew was lifted from Surat and some other areas yesterday.
Over 200 vehicles including around 100 buses, 15 police posts and several police vehicles and government offices were burnt by the protesters in the last two days in the state following the violence that erupted after the arrest of PAAS convener Hardik Patel on August 25 after his kranti rally in support of the demand of inclusion of the Patel community in OBC category for reservation benefits. 10 people including a police personnel have also lost their lives during the wide spread violence.
