15 patients of Nagari hospital claims loss of sight of one eye, kept under observation

Ahmedabad

Almost 15 patients of AMC run Shri CH Nagri Municipal Eye Hospital here claimed loss of sight of one eye today after being given a follow up injection yesterday.

The hospital management however said that they have been administered other drugs and put under observation with visible sings of improvement.

The incident has come to fore close on heels to such claims by 11 patients of a private trust run hospital in Rajkot last month who had undergone cataract operation. The Rajkot hospital has recently removed the doctor and some other staffs for their alleged negligence.

In-Charge Superintendent of Nagri Hospital Doctor Tejasben Desai said that the 15 patients mostly old age diabetics and some stroke patients had been administered Avastin injection post operation of one eye for retina related problems yesterday. ‘They showed signs of infection with increased swelling today during follow up check up. We immediately adminstered them with other drugs and put them under observation. Though most of them were showing signs of improvement they will be re-checked tomorrow after the completion of the observation period of around 12 hours,’ she said.

Notably Avastin is the brand name for bevacizumab, a drug injected into the eye to slow vision loss in people who have “wet” age-related macular degeneration.
