GACL to close calcium chloride plant of Vadodara complex

Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) has decided to close the loss-making calcium chloride plant of Vadodara complex and is looking to sell the facility.
“GACL is running 12 individual plants in Vadodara Complex and 11 plants in Dahej Complex. Some of these plants are of very small capacity, mainly set up to consume the excess Chlorine or Hydrochloric Acid and some of these plants are running at losses,” the company said in a filing to the BSE.
“The Calcium Chloride plant of Vadodara Complex is incurring losses. In order to improve the profitability of the company, the management has decided to close this plant and mothball it for some time till the mode of disposal of this plant is decided. The management is exploring the options to sell or otherwise dispose off the plant,” it added.
GACL said that the company has started similar exercise to reduce the losses of some of the plants in Dahej Complex and the management is examining the possibility of outsourcing the operations of some of these plants or to stop production altogether.
