At least 17 Gujarat pilgrims die in Nepal bus accident


Ahmedabad

A tourist bus from Dhrangadhra in Gujarat fell down in valley near Kathmandu in Nepal today. The bus with number plate GJ 14 X 990 fell of at a turning into a rivulet near Naubise in Dhading district, local police said. The cause of the accident which occurred around 6.45 a.m. is not known yet. The bus was on way to Gorakhpur in India from Kathmandu in Nepal. At least 17 tourists are dead in this incident while 27 are injured. All victims( 7 ladies and 9 gents) are from Gujarat. The bus belongs to Shree Hari Travels in Dhragandhra in Surendranagar district of Gujarat. It was on north India and Nepal tour with 45 tourists from Gujarat. While 13 persons died on the spot, 3 others were dead on way to hospital. Of 27 persons who are taken to hospital in Kathmandu for treatment, 6 are critical. Helpline number is 00977 985 110 7021.


Statement by Indian Embassy in Nepal

An Indian number plate bus, operated by Shri Hari Tours & Travels, Gujarat bearing Registration No.GJ14X9900 carrying around 50 Indian pilgrims met with an accident at Naubise, Dhading district early this morning. It is estimated that around 17 dead bodies have been recovered so far while 27 have been rescued and are being shifted to various hospitals in Kathmandu. Identity of the dead and the injured is yet to be ascertained. A team of Consular Wing officials has been deputed to the accident site to coordinate search and rescue operations and extend necessary assistance. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi tweeted: Very saddening news from Nepal. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in the bus accident at Neubise. A team from our Embassy in Nepal reached the spot within an hour of the accident to oversee rescue & relief operations. Embassy officials are present at every hospital where the injured are being treated & Embassy is taking care of the treatment.
