Gandhinagar
For last couple of years, the city of Ahmedabad has witnessed a new menace. Some Gujarati drama producers publish pornographic advertisements of their drama in mainstream Gujarat Samachar newspaper. Though it always takes conservative stand, Gujarat Samachar readily publishes such advertisements in big size on occasions. Most of the time, such advertisements were containing Porn star Sunny Leone’s photograph. Some of the double meaning wordings in advertisements are not suitable to publish/interpret here.
This trend has been opposed by conventional Gujarati play makers and general public on different platforms.
Recently a group of concerned citizens even asked Municipal Corporation and Ellis bridge Police station in Ahmedabad to stop such plays and don’t allot town hall to such shows.
The main problem for Police and Municipal Corporation was that such dramas were somehow approved by Certificate board of Youth and Cultural department, Government of Gujarat.
The ball therefore was in Government’s court. Questions were raised that how such dramas were getting approval? Was their title and content checked properly? What about soft-porn in advertisements published in Gujarat Samachar?
Lately the government has taken some actions.
The government has started legal procedure against three organizers who gave porn advertisement in a newspaper. The government has canceled the certificate given to Prakash Gadani’s ‘Bairi mari atom bomb ne hun chhu sursuriyu’, Pratik Sharma’s ‘Banevini babal bahu’ and Hitesh Gadhvi’s ‘Dhani ne dhak ma rakho’.
These dramas are not permitted to be played in any district of Gujarat. Youth and Cultural activities department’s Commissioner Dr. NK Meena has stated that original certificates will have to be deposited in government.
