Valsad: In a first helicopter rescue operation of this monsoon in Gujarat, 10 persons were rescued from flood water of river Daman Ganga in South Gujarat today by Coast Guard helicopter.
Local gram panchayat had contacted district administration and informed that 10 persons were trapped in river Daman Ganga for several hours. They were standing on small portion of upper land located in the middle of flooding river.
The district administration had first moved fire brigade rescue teams, but location was such that fire brigade couldn’t achieve success.
Latter the administration contacted nearby Coast Guard station and requested helicopter rescue.
PSI M D Patel of Bhilad police station – ”All the nine people trapped in the river Daman Ganga were residents of nearby Borikachi village. They had gone for fishing when the water level in the river suddenly started to surge owing to the ongoing rains and release of some water from Madhuvan dam in Silvassa. We got an SOS at around 4 pm and passed it on to the district administration. The Coastguards chopper made four rounds to rescue all the nine people.”
It should be noted that due to heavy rains in upstream areas of Madhuban dam, there’s flood like situation in river Damanganga in downstream areas of south Gujarat. The highest effect is experienced in Umargam while pockets of Vapi and Valsad are also witnessing water logging.
