Untimely summer not entirely a bad news, rising mercury brings down prices of Kesar mango

Junagadh: The untimely and abrupt rise in mercury and the corresponding nonseasonal heat-wave in Gujarat is definitely causing some difficulties to the common-folk but it has also brought some good-news for the mango lovers especially those waiting for the full fledged entry of the all-tempting and mouth-watering Kesar Keri of Saurashtra.

The increasing temperatures are making more and more of Kesar keri fruits to ripe before time resulting in its increased arrival in market yard here which in turn is also resulting in lessening its soaring prices.

The famous Kesar mango had made its first presence in Junagadh marketing yard much ahead the coming mango season on March 16.

The mango, which is also a famous item of Saurashtra region of Gujarat like its Gir forests, the sole home of Asiatic lions, was sold at quite a costly rate of around two to three thousand a box of 10 kg (ie Rs 200 to 300 a kg against the peek season rate of Rs 30 to 60) on day one.

But owing to rising temperatures its arrival has increased. More and more boxes are reaching the market yard here and its prices now has come down up to Rs 600 a box of 10 kg ie Rs 60 per kg, however the superior most quality is still selling at Rs 2000/10 kg box ie Rs 200/kg. Anyways the lowering of prices has made it possible for commoners to have a taste of this delicious fruit much before the peak season at somewhat affordable rate.
A market yard employee here said that around a thousand boxes reached the yard today from the orchards of Talala, in nearby Gir-somnath district a famous center of production for Kesar keri.
