Metro rail project: Residents in Gomtipur complain about strange underground sounds, damages to houses in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Residents of Gomtipur municipal quarters today morning complained about damage to their residences due to underground tunnel work of Metro rail project. Residents said they had to rush outside of their quarters due to strange sounds from under the ground.
They said Metro rail engineers had marked ‘danger’ sign over some quarters. Locals claimed they live in fear and can’t sleep during night.
City Mayor, Metro rail project execution agency MEGA officials rushed to the place to take stock of the situation. Cave-in was noticed inside the quarters campus at one place.
Meanwhile, the metro rail project has in a statement said that places where underground tunnel work is going to take place are surveyed in advance and whatever structure or construction on the surface is found weak or dangerous is vacated two-three days before the underground tunnel work. Each family is given Rs 500 per day to shift and stay at other place or they are given alternate accommodation. Metro rail project has given assurance that it will inform in two-three days advance and make arrangement of relocation in such cases in days to come in connection with underground tunnel boring machine work.
It should be mentioned here that MEGA has recently launched fourth tunnel boring machine to execute the underground portion of metro rail project.
