New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was on Wednesday appointed AICC general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East(46 Lok Sabha seats) by her brother and party chief Rahul Gandhi, the party said. Eastern Uttar Pradesh includes places like Varanasi (represented by PM Modi in Lok Sabha), Garakhpur(stronghold of UP CM Yogi Adityanath).

Priyanka Vadra is traveling abroad at present and she will come back on February 1 according to party leader Rajiv Shukla.

Priyanka Gandhi will take over as AICC general secretary for UP East in the first week of February, the party said.

Priyanka has formerly been a reluctant politician, limiting herself to campaign for her brother and mother during elections.

In another development, Jyotiraditya Scindia has been appointed AICC general secretary for UP West, a party spokesperson said.

The party also replaced Ashok Gehlot as AICC general secretary Organisation with K C Venugopal.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has been appointed AICC general secretary in charge of Haryana, the party said.

It’s worth noting that Gulam Nabi Azad was incharge of entire Uttar Pradesh state. Now he has been shifted to a smaller state and his responsibilities are distributed to Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

When asked about this development, Rahul Gandhi reacted: Congress party is fighting ideological battle, it will contest on front foot and not remain on back foot. Whether it’s Priyanka or Jyotiraditya Scindia, they are both powerful leaders of Congress and we want to change Uttar Pradesh politics with them. I have given them a mission for poor and weaker section of UP to bring message of inclusive development. Both shall work and convey that what UP wants, what UP youth wants, Congress party will deliver. It is upon Priyanka whether she wants to contest(the election). UP politics has experienced positive turn with this development. I am very happy that my sister who is very capable is going to work with me. Jyotiraditya is also very dynamic youth leader. We want to tell the people of UP, the youths and the farmers that you wasted lot of time. BJP govt has devastated UP, let people remove BJP govt. BJP is also little feared with this development(Priyanka Gandhi’s elevation).
