Test run of Ahmedabad Metro begins over viaduct; public access likely next month

Ahmedabad: Citizens in Ahmedabad can board metro train on 6 km Ramol – Apparel park route possibly from early March.
Test runs of 3-coach metro train has started covering two stations (Apparel Park and Amraiwadi stations) in last two days. In next one week, all six stations – full route – connecting Vastral to Apparel Park will be covered.
Coaches arrived at 1st January from Hyundai Rotem facility in South Korea via Mundra port, after which testing was underway at stationery route in apparel park facility. On 31st January, trial in depot started for the first time. From yesterday onward test runs have been started over viaduct, initially covering a stretch connecting two stations. After one by one increase, all six stations are to be covered under test run in next one week according to Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) official.
GMRC official further said, test runs shall be over within this month and regular operations are likely to start in the month of March if government clearance arrives.
Test runs are being conducted at a speed of 33 km. Approximate time of journey between two stations is 2 minutes.
Consulting agencies – Rites Ltd, Systra France, AECOM and OCG are involved in test run operations of 3-coach train that can carry 800 passengers.
