JK Paper Ltd signs MoU with Gujarat govt. for additional Rs. 1500 crore investment in Songadh plant

Gandhinagar: A leading paper producer company JK Paper Ltd has signed MoU with the Government of Gujarat for investment of Rs. 1500 crore in tribal populated Songadh in Tapi district of South Gujarat for expansion and modernisation of its existing plant. The plant will be commissioned by December 2020.
With additional Rs. 1500 crore investment, the plant will increase its pulp processing capacity from 60,000 TPA at present to 1,60,000 TPA. Expanded plant will focus on production of duplex-coated board paper.
According to a note released by the State government, the plant is at present providing employment to 2200 local youths. With expansion, additional 1000 local youths will be employed in this plant.
The plant will also provide opportunity of row material supply to local farmers. Approximately 10,000 tribal farmers will benefit from it.
The plant according to a note has environment friendly design. Waste water to be released from the plant will be treated and used for farming. Number of trees to be planted for environmental protection will be greater in number than the trees to be planted for availability of row material.
According to the State government note, company’s managing director Harshpati Sindhania said that the company decided to made more investment in Gujarat and make long term plan in the State due to continuous position of the State in top-5 ranks in ease of doing business index and due to stable and good governance.
