Gandhinagar: Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel today told media persons that MD doctors will be able to recommend Covid-19 tests in private laboratories by just informing the Civic health official in AMC.

Nitin Patel said, ‘the city of Ahmedabad has more than 1400 doctors who are MD specialist. Our core group has taken a decision that all MD consultant specialist doctors are now authorized to check Covid-19 related symptoms and recommend a Covid-19 test for suitable patient. The patients recommended by MDs will straight away be tested for Covid-19 in private laboratories. The doctors will simply need to send email and inform the civic health official regarding this. The notification has been issued and implementation of this decision will start tomorrow.’

Dy CM announced this decision when Ahmedabad Medical Association has gone to High Court challenging earlier notification that made hospitalization of any person mandatory in order to get eligible for Covid-19 test in private laboratories. AMA had in its plea argued that requirement of hospitalization for test was counterproductive and not in match with the High Court order. AMA had challenged the State government on earlier occasion too when the State government had virtually banned Covid-19 testing in private laboratories.
