No report of any death due to Tauktae cyclone: Gujarat govt official

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today said, the people in cyclone impacted areas of Gujarat are safe, thanks to advanced measures taken ahead of landfall of cyclone Tauktae.
Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue department, Pankaj Kumar in his 1.00 am briefing told media persons that there has been no news of any loss of life or damage. ‘We are sure the people are safe,’ he added.
He said the cyclone had its landfall at around 9 pm in the evening of May 17th with speed of 150 km per hour. Highest speed of 185 km per hour was noticed in Jafrabad and Pipavav.
Falling of electricity poles and trees was reported at some places however functioning of covid hospital remained unimpacted.
5-6 meter high waves were seen along with cyclone in the sea.
The most affected talukas were Jafrabad, Amreli, Rajula, Mahuva (Bhavnagar) and Surendranagar. The highest impact was felt in Una and Gir Gadhda talukas where power was disconnected as a prevention measure.
Meanwhile, 24-hour rainfall figures released post 6 am today shows that the highest rainfall was experienced in Amreli district’s Bagasara taluka. This is same district where landfall of Tauktae cyclone happened late last evening.
