Flood in parts of Jamnagar districts

Jamnagar: Many rural areas of Jamnagar district, especially those in Kalavad and Dhrol talukas are witnessing flood. All the dams of Jamnagar taluka are reportedly overflowing now due to very heavy rain in last 24 hours.

Alia-Bada and Moti Banugar villages have submerged into water due to the flooding. Over a two dozen persons are rescued and the rescue operations are still ongoing. Teams of NDRF and SDRF have been sent to rescue the people stuck in flood. Khijadiya Bypass and bridge near Dhuvavalso witnessed overtopping of flood water.

Jamnagar Panchkoshi A-division police station and surrounding area also submerged into water. Fire-brigade has started a rescue operation in Dua village. The area near Vohra no Haziro and Kalawad Naka in the city witnessed floods.

Moti Banugar village received 22 inches of rains. Kalavad taluka received over 7.80 inches of rain in four hours from 6 to 10 am as per State Emergency Operation Centre. The taluka received a total 198 mm rainfall in this period. Dhrol taluka received 176 mm rainfall in 24 hours ending today at 8 am.

Rajkot- Jamnagar highway is inoperative. Jamnagar-Kalavad highway is also inoperative after flooding at the causeway near Vijrakhi. Maliya – Amran – Jodiya – Jabuda road, Maliya Amran Jodiya Jabuda road are also closed for traffic due to overtopping of water. Ranjitsagar dam started overflowing due to the rain.

Update:

64 persons were rescued from 8 different villages through air lifting in Kalavad, Jodiya, Jamnagar (Rural) and Jamnagar City and shifted to safe places. Other 48 persons were shifted to safer places by district administration.

Air lifting in Jamnagar city’s Nageshwar area was underway.

3 NDRF teams are deployed in Jamnagar, in addition to 2 SDRF teams. 5 more teams have been demanded from the Centre. Two teams of SDRF from Madana and Gandhinagar have been moved to Rajkot. 2 teams of Navy are deployed in Jamnagar.

Persons shifted district wise are Rajkot – 2553, Jamnagar – 3966, Porbandar – 224, Junagadh – 05 – in total 6,748 persons.

15 State highways, 1 national highway and 130 Panchayat roads are closed for traffic, mainly in Jamnagar and Rajkot districts.
