Gandhinagar: Gujarat Congress today attempted to hold a youth protest rally in State capital Gandhinagar, however fewer could gather at the venue of the start of the rally due to police bandobast.

The rally was not granted permission and therefore police detained all those attempting to participate in it. The total count of such detention was below 100. Among those who participated in the rally were State Congress leader Hardik Patel and national president of Youth Congress Shrinivas. State Congress chief Jagdish Thakor claimed that the rally programme witnessed poor turnout due to detentions of party workers in advance by police.

Meanwhile in a rare success, some Congress workers including Youth Congress leader Vishwanathsinh Vaghela could reach inside the State secretariat and assembly campus and burnt an effigy. They were also detained by police later.

Every year during the budget session of State assembly, the opposition Congress party organizes a protest march over some or other issue. During the current assembly session, Congress has attempted three marches so far. The first was attempted by the Women’s wing of Seva Dal organization of Congress. The second march was attempted by tribal MLAs of the Congress party. The third march was organized today covering youths.

All three march attempts were failed by Police by minimum use of force. The presence of Congress workers, leaders and supporters in all three marches ranged from a few hundred(in women’s march and youth’s march) to a few thousands(in tribal rally).
