A farmer in Halvad makes annual Rs. 15 lakh turnover by selling organic honey

Surendranagar: Kamleshbhai Patel, a farmer from Halvad in Morbi, makes an annual turnover of around Rs 15 lakh by selling organic honey generated by him through beekeeping. A team from Japan recently visited Halvad to shoot a documentary film about his work.

Kamleshbhai Patel arranged 140 brood boxes in his farm. Around 30 thousand honey bees live in each brood box. The honey bees of 3 types namely king, queen and worker live in each brood box. He is able to generate 3 to 4 thousand kgs of honey within a year through it. The investment cost for each box is Rs 4500 and the total cost for 140 brood boxes is Rs 6.75 lakh. He sells honey in various flavours namely fennel, sesame, carom and drumstick. He sells the honey in various sizes of packaging such as 100 grams, 250 grams and 500 grams. The honey is ISO certified and has a trademark.

A team from Japan visited Halvad to make a documentary about his work. The shooting was done for 2 to 3 days.Kamleshbhai Patel also conducts seminars for bee farming for the students. The professors of agriculture universities also invite him to share information about bee farming.
