A cow belonging to the priest of the Mahadev temple in Pansora village of Umreth taluka had stopped eating altogether since last 10 days. She was also suffering from gastric trouble. The owner decided to take her to veterinary facility of Amul Dairy in Anand where Dr Mohsin Vohra using a metal detector detected the presence of metal bodies inside the cow’s stomach.

The scheduled surgery took three hours to complete and it was found that there was more plastic than food inside the cow’s stomach. The team of veterinarians removed 30 kgs of plastic, steel wires, iron nails, a hair pin, a safety pin, a currency coin, and small pieces of iron metal from the lower part of the cow’s stomach, relieving her pain.

The veterinary surgeon informed that when the owners release their cows in the open, the animals end up swallowing plastic bags along with other waste and vegetables. The plastic is indigestible, accumulates inside the digestive tract and the animal starts suffering from gastric trouble.
