Anand: A veterinary surgeon at the Amul Dairy has removed 30 kilograms of plastic material by way of surgery from a cow’s stomach after the bovine was rushed for medical treatment due to drop in her health conditions.
A cow belonging to the priest of the Mahadev temple in Pansora village of Umreth taluka had stopped eating altogether since last 10 days. She was also suffering from gastric trouble. The owner decided to take her to veterinary facility of Amul Dairy in Anand where Dr Mohsin Vohra using a metal detector detected the presence of metal bodies inside the cow’s stomach.
The scheduled surgery took three hours to complete and it was found that there was more plastic than food inside the cow’s stomach. The team of veterinarians removed 30 kgs of plastic, steel wires, iron nails, a hair pin, a safety pin, a currency coin, and small pieces of iron metal from the lower part of the cow’s stomach, relieving her pain.
The veterinary surgeon informed that when the owners release their cows in the open, the animals end up swallowing plastic bags along with other waste and vegetables. The plastic is indigestible, accumulates inside the digestive tract and the animal starts suffering from gastric trouble.
Many time cows also give up eating because of the presence of sharp items made of metals in the stomach swallowed along with their regular food. Such ailments can only be addressed by way of a surgery, the Vet informed. DeshGujarat.
