3 booked for alleged triple talaq to Juhapura woman on video call

Ahmedabad: Vejalpur police in the city booked Ali Akbar Habibi along with his family for giving triple talaq to his wife through a video call after taking a dowry of Rs 80 lakh.
A female named Rumana Ali Akbar Habibi (age 32 years) living in Juhapura and mother of four filed a complaint against his husband Ali Akbar Habibi, mother-in-law Amina Banu and brother-in-law AliAzgar (Vasai, Mumbai West) alleging mental and physical torture and demanding dowry. The female’s father had given gold ornaments of 75 tolas in her marriage. He had given a dowry of Rs 80 lakh including Rs 50 lakh cash for buying a house and Rs 30 lakh for furniture and utensils. The accused Ali Akbar Habibi allegedly demanded Rs 11 lakh to buy a car. He allegedly gave triple talaq to his wife on video call after they refused to give the amount. The accused Ali Akbar allegedly gave intoxicating pills to her wife when she protested against him for an affair with another female.
The complainant married the accused Ali Akbar Habibi running a company named FM steel and living in Mumbai in 2007. She gave birth to three daughters and one son after marriage. The complainant’s mother-in-law allegedly taunted and fought with her after the birth of the first girl child. Her husband allegedly beat her when she conveyed her mother-in-law’s behavior to him. After the birth of the second girl child, her mother-in-law allegedly started forcing her to demand the amount of the expenses of the children and necessary items from her father. Her mother-in-law and brother-in-law had threatened to expel her from the house if she gives birth to a girl child for the third time. However, she gave birth to a son as a third child. Her mother-in-law had told the complainant to take money from her father for buying another house due to the marriage of her brother-in-law. His father had given Rs 50 lakh for the house and Rs 30 lakh for furniture and other items.
