Ahmedabad set to host U-20 Mayoral Summit

Ahmedabad: India assumed the G-20 presidency and has been playing an important role by conducting deliberations across the country on important priority issues of the G-20. The 18th G20 Summit will be held in September 2023. The G-20 Presidency for India also coincides with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Gujarat has hosted a series of successful debates, discussions, and events under G-20.
Ahmedabad is the Chair for the sixth edition of U20. With India’s G20 theme of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, U20 Ahmedabad aims to highlight that actions at the city level can drive lasting positive global outcomes underscoring the interconnectedness of the world and our shared future.
The U20 Mayoral Summit will witness participation by Mayors from G20 nations. The mayors will get together to bring forth to the G20 the unique challenges of administering cities. 34 Participating Cities and 104 International Observer Cities will be a part of the U20 Summit.
Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat will be the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the U20 Summit. The c40 cities and UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments) will be convening the session. Speakers at the event include Kiritkumar Parmar, MLA, GoG, Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa of India and ex -CEO of Niti Aayog and Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
There will be two ‘Mayoral Closed Door Sessions’, one each on July 7th and 8th. Additionally, there will be three Parallel Spotlight Sessions on both days.
On July 7th, the ‘Thematic Sessions on U20 Priorities’ will focus on ‘Reinventing frameworks for urban governance and planning Digital Urban Futures’ and ‘Encouraging Environmentally Responsible Behaviour and Ensuring Water Security’. On the 8th of July, the ‘Parallel Thematic Sessions on U20 Priorities’ will focus on ‘Accelerating Climate Finance Championing Local Culture and Economy
The thematic sessions are planned to focus on topics like ‘Championing Local Culture and Economy’, ‘Accelerating Climate Finance’, ‘Encouraging Environmentally Responsible Behaviours and Ensuring Water Security’ and ‘Reinventing Frameworks for Urban Governance and Catalysing Digital Urban Futures’.
The participants will also visit India’s first fintech city-the GIFT City.
The state government has also organised a city tour for the participants to showcase the rich heritage and grandeur of India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City- Ahmedabad. The city tour will provide them an immersive experience of the heritage, marvel and modernity of Ahmedabad. Apart from that, they will also have a gala dinner at the Sabarmati Riverfront. DeshGujarat
