Police nabs 3 students accused of holding a liquor party in MS University hostel room

Vadodara: The Sayajiganj police have nabbed three students of Maharaja Sayajirao (MS) University after a video surfaced, showing these students engaged in a liquor party within the hostel room. The three individuals who have been detained by the Sayajigunj police are identified as Krish Yadav from Valsad and Tushar Makwana, and Jay Patel from Vadodara. They were nabbed after an official of MS University’s MM Mehta Hall hostel lodged a police complaint over a liquor party in the hostel room.

On August 15, a video surfaced depicting three students engaging in a liquor party within the MM hall of the boys’ hostel at MS University in Vadodara. The students can be seen having a liquor party in room no 34 of MM Mehta Hall of the boys’ hostel in the viral video clip. Rajnarayan Sharma, the incharge warden of MM Mehta Hall, went to the hostel and initiated an investigation upon learning about the matter. However, the alleged students had already escaped. These students, who violated not just the hostel rules but also the law of the land by consuming liquor illegally in the hostel, had secured their admission in the current academic year only.

In another development, the Disciplinary Committee initiated an inquiry, summoning the students and their parents to appear before them yesterday. However, they failed to do so before being apprehended by the police.

A committee meeting was convened at the Chief Warden’s office. M.S. Hari Kataria, the Convener of the Disciplinary Committee overseeing the students’ drinking party, confirmed that letters had been dispatched to students, urging their attendance at the committee meeting. However, due to the absence of students and parents, no decisions could be reached during the session. As a result,  it was decided to reschedule the meeting for August 21. To date, no punitive measures have been taken against the students by the college, barring the suspension of Krish Yadav from the hostel.

As per the regulations, students will be granted 2 or 3 opportunities to appear before the committee, following which decisions will be taken as per the university guidelines. To ensure an unbiased investigation, all pertinent parties will be summoned before the committee. Additionally, heightened scrutiny will be applied to students entering the hostel premises.
