Jamnagar civic body seeks Rs. 1095 crore grant from State govt including for building a Riverfront

Jamnagar: The standing committee of Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) has approved the proposal of requesting a grant of Rs 1095 crore from the state government for various development works including for Rs 600 crore riverfront project of Jamnagar.

The proposal recommends a grant of Rs 1095 crore under Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojna from the state government for various development works in the city. It includes Rs 600 crore riverfront development project. It also includes Rs 8 crore for resolving the issue of stray cattle, Rs 402.70 crore for urban development works, Rs 71.31 crore for road works, Rs 13 crore for a bridge connecting Lakhota, Bhujiya fort, and Khambhalia gate, Rs 1.25 crore for Mandvi tower repair.

The work of the riverfront project of Jamnagar granted by Gujarat Finance Board was started in 2016. The topography survey, feasibility survey and a survey for demolition have been conducted so far for the project. The other surveys conducted already include lifting the height of walls of 3 check dams in the river in order to increase their storage capacity, setting up a filtration plant at the end of underground gutter etc. However on the ground, the project has not moved an inch.
