River bridge over Bhogavo in rural Surendranagar collapses

Surendranagar: A dilapidated bridge at Vastadi in Surendranagar district collapsed today. A dumper truck has also fallen down along with the bridge. No casualty has been reported, but four persons are injured. The bridge connecting dozens of nearby villages collapsed after a heavy dumper truck was passing over it. The bridge was connecting Vastadi to Chuda.

Along with a dumper truck, two bikes were also reportedly using this bridge when it collapsed.

The district collector said that this bridge is a 40-year-old bridge and it was not suitable for a heavy vehicle, but a heavy vehicle passed through it and caused its collapse. Vastadi Bridge of Wadwan in Surendranagar district was built in the year 1965. The bridge is approximately 40 meters long. Both sides are provided with 7 pillars. This bridge used to connect villages including Chuda, Ranpur, Botad. This bridge comes under the R&B category. Bhogavo river passes under both sides of the bridge. DeshGujarat
