Land and infrastructure eating dust; Gir cow sanctuary project remains non-starter

Porbandar: Former President of Porbandar district panchayat has appealed to revive Gir cow sanctuary project in the district.

Manjuben Karavadra, former chief of Porbandar district panchayat has made representation before the Agriculture and Animal husbandry minister Raghavji Patel that Dharampur village’s Gauchar land was handed over to Agriculture department on 11 December 2015 to create a sanctuary of Gir cows so that pure breed of Gir cows can be available. Various infrastructure facilities for this proposed sanctuary like shelter and feeding arrangements for cows, office for staff, quarters for staff, compound wall etc. were also created.

However as these facilities are in unused manner, their condition is likely to be deteriorated gradually. This will result into wastage of government money.

The sanctuary project has been put under Kamdhenu University. The project has remained non-starter so far. A representation was made in this regard two years ago also, but nothing moved on the ground. DeshGujarat
