Valsad: With the onset of the southwest monsoon in Kerala, which has brought heavy rainfall, strong winds are expected to prevail along the coastal area of Gujarat. As a precaution, the district administration has closed Tithal Beach to visitors. The local police have been deployed to enforce the closure.
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut has also issued an order prohibiting visitors on Dumas and Suvali beaches from June 1 to June 7 due to the forecast of powerful surface winds. The IMD anticipates these strong winds as a result of a significant pressure gradient along the coasts of south Gujarat. S
DCP (Special Branch) Hetal Patel stated, “We’ve implemented a ban on beach visits due to the vacation season, when many people typically flock to the beaches. We urge individuals to refrain from coastal areas of Surat city during the initial week of June, as the weather department has cautioned about severe winds. Additionally, we advise fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.”
According to the IMD forecast, “Due to the steep pressure gradient, strong surface winds are highly likely to prevail along the north and south Gujarat coasts. Strong winds of 30-35 knots, gusting to 40 knots, are expected under the influence of this pressure gradient.”
Fishermen have also been advised against venturing into the sea. Fishermen from Umergam, Nani Danti, Moti Danti, and Kosamba have been specifically warned to stay ashore.
Similarly, the police have been deployed at Dandi Beach and Umbharat Beach of Navsari as the local administration has closed these beaches to visitors. Strong currents are being observed in the sea off the coast of south Gujarat, and people have been advised not to go to the beach. DeshGujarat
