21st Livestock census in Gujarat to take place from September 2024

Gandhinagar: The 21st livestock census will take place across the country, including Gujarat, during the September to December period this year. For the first time, a mobile app and software will be used for this. The central government has started a pilot project to test the use of the mobile app for the livestock census in some states, including Gujarat, in the Jodiya and Kalavad talukas of Jamnagar district.
Earlier, in 2019, the 20th livestock census was conducted using tablets. According to the 2019 livestock census, Gujarat had 96 lakh cows, 17.50 lakh Gir cows, 17.70 lakh Kankrej cows, 63,000 Dangi cows, 33.80 lakh cross-breed cows, 26.50 lakh total cows, 14.70 lakh Jafrabadi buffaloes, 11.40 lakh Surti buffaloes, 7.70 lakh Banni buffaloes, 31.80 lakh other buffaloes, 1.05 crore total buffaloes, 17.80 lakh sheep, and 46.60 lakh goats, making a total of 2.68 crore livestock.
Over 2700 persons at rural level persons and 1,000 persons at urban level in addition to 670 supervisors will join the census procedure in Gujarat. The government has appointed nodal officers at District and State levels. DeshGujarat
