Afghani charas worth Rs. 1.87 crores recovered off Hazira coast in Surat

Surat: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police recovered 3.5 kg of Afghani charas, valued at Rs. 1.87 crore, from Hazira beach on Tuesday.

According to the SOG, three packets of charas were found in an uninhabited area along the seashore, approximately 500 meters from tank numbers 1001 and 1002 behind the Shell company located in the Hazira area. The packets contained 3.754 kg of Afghani charas, with a total value exceeding Rs. 1.87 crore. The Fishermen’s Watch Group at Hazira had informed the SOG that three suspicious packets in “Starbucks Coffee” packaging had washed up on the shore.

It is suspected that the drug traffickers discarded the packets into the sea to avoid detection by authorities. The quantity of charas found in Surat is similar to that found in Valsad just a day ago.

Last year, Surat SOG and the crime branch seized over 30 kg of Afghan charas at Suvali and Damka beaches. The first seizure occurred in July at Suvali beach, where 9.59 kg of charas worth Rs. 4.8 crore was found. In September 2023, Surat police seized 8.31 kg worth Rs. 4.15 crore and 13 kg worth Rs. 6.56 crore. DeshGujarat
