Patil sets 2 crore target at launch of Gujarat BJP membership drive
September 03, 2024
Ahmedabad: Gujarat BJP Chief and Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil today launched the party’s Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024 from the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in the Bodakdev area of the city. While launching the membership campaign, Patil proposed a target of 2 crore members for the BJP in Gujarat.
Addressing the event, Patil said, “Under this campaign, we have set a target for Gujarat. We had a meeting in Delhi where Ratnakar ji, KC Patel, Vinodbhai, Rajnibhai, and I were discussing what target we should set. Last time it was 1.19 crores (members), and during these elections, we got 1.88 crore votes. If the election had taken place in Surat, we would have gotten 8 lakh votes. If we add these two, we would have a voter base of 1.96 crore votes in the Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, we got 1.87 crore votes; in the 2022 assembly polls, we got 1.73 crore; and this time we got 1.96 crore votes. Even though we were not asked, today we shall set the target of 2 crore members.”
Patil also stated that even though Uttar Pradesh is triple the size in terms of population, its number of members is just slightly more than ours. However, although Gujarat may be smaller than UP, we have decided to be the largest in terms of the number of party members. The party will achieve this collectively, and we all have the power to achieve this target, as we need to strengthen the Sangathan.
“After the Lok Sabha poll results, there is some pessimism in the country because we secured fewer seats. But as Amitbhai Shah saheb says, if we had gotten 241 in 2014, we would have burst crackers and celebrated. We must have lost some seats due to our own mistakes. In Gujarat, I accept the responsibility for the loss of one seat, but now we have to move forward from that,” Patil added. DeshGujarat
