Gandhinagar: Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam, which is known as the lifeline of Gujarat is likely to achieve the full reservoir level on the birthday of the Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi who completed the construction of this dam.
Ever since the completion of the dam and isntallation of gates, approval for which was cleared within 15 days after Narendrabhai became the Prime Minister, the grand dam is conventionally filled to its highest level on the birthday of Narendrabhai Modi which is on September 17.
The release of water has been reduced in the river for last few days, compared to previous week, against heavy inflow from upstream Madhya Pradesh.
At 1 am on Sunday, September 15, the inflow was over 4.38 lakh cusecs against outflow of over 3.25 lakh cusecs in river bed and over 23,000 cusecs in the canals. 15 gates of the dam are opened in measurement of 2.6 meters.
The full level would be at 138.68 m in this 9,460 mcm design capacity dam, while the level at 1 pm was 136.91 m at 1 am Sunday. The dam was 94.11% full at 1 am on Sunday. The level had crossed 90% mark last month but it was brought down from there. Just this week the level was again brought beyond 90% level. It’s over 94% today and no wonder if it cross 100% on Sept 17, the birthday of PM Modi.DeshGujarat
