Over 56,000 Ganesh idols immersed in Surat as Ganesh Utsav 2024 concludes

Surat: On the last day of the 10-day-long Ganeshotsav, Surat witnessed the immersion of over 54,256 idols by 5 p.m. in artificial ponds created by the Surat Municipal Corporation. Meanwhile, 2,497 large idols were submerged in the sea at three locations.

Anil Biscuitwala, president of the Shree Ganesh Utsav Samithi Surat, noted that a record number of around 85,000 Ganesh idols had been installed in homes, pandals, and other locations throughout Surat this year.

In light of the number of idols, the Surat Municipal Corporation established 21 artificial ponds across all nine municipal zones for the immersion of idols up to 5 feet in height. Idols taller than 5 feet were to be immersed directly into the sea at Hazira, Dumas, and Magdalla with the assistance of large cranes. To facilitate the Ganesh Visarjan, at least 21 roads in the city were closed, and traffic was redirected to adjacent routes.

Personnel from the SMC, police, and fire department, along with various political leaders, were present at Dumas and Magdalla wharf for the immersion process. Over 7,000 police personnel were deployed throughout the city to maintain law and order and oversee traffic movement.
