Local MLA and saints demand changing the name of Bahauddin College in Junagadh

Junagadh: The demand to change the name of the over-120-year-old Bahauddin College has resurfaced. Local MLA Sanjay Koradia has requested the state government to change the name of the college to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel College. Just a few days ago, Mahant Maheshgiri Bapu had also raised the same demand.

Speaking to the media, MLA Sanjay Koradia said, “This college should be named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, especially because Patel, the former Home Minister and Iron Man of the country, worked to unify all empires. He made the greatest contribution to the independence of Junagadh.”

Meanwhile, Mahant Maheshgiri Bapu of Kamandal Kund said, “There should be no remnants of colonialism (Gulami); therefore, I reiterate that the name of this college should be changed and named after Sardar Patel, who contributed greatly to the country’s unity. This would be a matter of pride for Junagadh.”

Supporting this demand, Jyotirnath Maharaj also voiced agreement, stating that Maheshgiri Bapu’s statement is welcome.

However, Bharat Amipara, District Congress Chief, has called this demand a drama. AIMIM spokesperson Danish Qureshi labeled Maheshgiri Bapu’s statement as harmful to the state and suggested that those who support such changes should also consider boycotting missionary schools at both state and national levels and renaming them if possible.
