SGCCI urges Western Railway to reinstate Andheri halt for superfast trains to ease airport access

Surat: The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has requested the reinstatement of Andheri station as a halt for superfast trains like Vande Bharat, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Tejas, and Karnavati. This request was made in a letter to Western Railway’s Divisional Railway Manager, Niraj Verma.
Many passengers from Surat and South Gujarat travel to Mumbai by train to catch flights from Mumbai International Airport, but they face challenges as these major trains no longer stop at Andheri station, which is closer to the airport.
SGCCI President Vijay Mevawala highlighted that many travelers from Gujarat rely on these trains for international business trips via Mumbai Airport, and Andheri station’s proximity to the airport would be highly convenient. Currently, travelers must disembark at Mumbai Central or Borivali, adding an extra hour and increased costs to reach the airport.
Previously, passengers could reach Mumbai Airport in just ten minutes from Andheri station, which is only 1.9 km away from the airport. DeshGujarat
